This article aims to analyze the portrayal of the category of “perpetrator” in contemporary academic literature in Chile concerning the military dictatorship. Applying the theoretical framework of the history of concepts, this paper delves beyond the mere linguistic analysis and considers the relationship between concepts and their circumstances. Our hypothesis is that the concept of “perpetrator” in Chile has followed an evolution similar to that experienced by this notion in the international literature, beginning with definitions about the “agent” to later reach more complex delimitations, from relational order, in which approaches based on cultural memory stand out. Specifically, the study begins with an in-depth analysis of the main publications that address perpetrators in Chile. These publications are organized based on their production context, providing a comprehensive understanding of the diverse perspectives surrounding this issue. Finally, this paper concludes with a reflection on the possible discussions on perpetrators that could be enriched by commemorating the 50th anniversary of the military coup in Chile.El presente artículo propone analizar el modo en que la categoría conceptual del “perpetrador” de la dictadura cívico-militar chilena ha sido abordada en la producción académica contemporánea de las ciencias sociales en este país. Se recurre a la teoría e historia de los conceptos, pues más allá de un análisis puramente lingüístico, se busca comprender la relación que hay entre los conceptos y las circunstancias aprendidas por estos. Se sostiene, a modo de hipótesis, que el concepto “perpetrador” en Chile ha seguido un devenir similar al que ha experimentado esta noción en la literatura internacional, comenzando con definiciones centradas en el “agente” para luego, alcanzar delimitaciones más complejas, de orden relacional, en las que destacan abordajes basados en la memoria cultural. En concreto, se analizan las principales publicaciones referidas a los perpetradores en Chile, organizándolas de acuerdo con su contexto de producción, finalizando con reflexiones a propósito de los debates que podrían abrirse en torno a la conmemoración de los cincuenta años del golpe de Estado en Chile.
