In 1979, Juan Radrigan premiered his first play: Testimonio de las muertes de Sabina [Testimony of Sabina’s Many Deaths]. In 1980, he organized his own theatrical troupe, the Teatro Popular El Telón [The Curtain Popular Theatre]. And in 1981 his work Hechos consumados [When All is Said and Done] received the Critics Play of The Year Award. Soon Radrigan became the main playwright emerged during the dictatorship and since then has been known as “the playwright of the outcasts”. Until now, the novels, short stories, and poetry that Radrigan wrote before he started producing theatre, have not been studied. From a first glance to these materials, this paper proposes innovative approaches to rethink Radrigan’s theatre and, at once, the chilean theatrical field during the post-coup years.En 1979, Juan Radrigán debutó como dramaturgo con Testimonio de las muertes de Sabina. En 1980 formó su propia compañía, el Teatro Popular El Telón. Recibió el Premio de la Crítica a la Mejor Obra en 1981 por Hechos consumados. Pronto devino el “dramaturgo revelación” del teatro chileno durante la dictadura y desde entonces ha sido reconocido como el “dramaturgo de los marginados”. Hasta ahora no han sido estudiadas la narrativa y la poesía que produjo antes de consagrase al teatro. A partir de una primera mirada a estos materiales, este artículo propone claves novedosas para revisitar la dramaturgia de Radrigán y, de paso, repensar el campo teatral chileno durante los años siguientes al golpe de Estado.
