dc.descriptionPreguntas como ¿cuál es la forma en que una sociedad determinada se define en su literatura?, ¿qué hacen los escritores con la inspiración que la sociedad les aporta? y ¿cuál es el papel que desempeñan como intelectuales? han sido, desde tiempos inmemoriales, objeto de análisis crítico. En el teatro de Armando Discépolo, los personajes actúan como caricaturas grotescas de las situaciones que les corresponde vivir cotidianamente en una Argentina que entra en la modernidad del siglo XX, donde tienen dificultad para adaptarse a los cambios sociales. En sus obras, el dramaturgo presenta personajes deformados, incongruentes, con carencias graves derivadas, muchas veces, de su condición de inmigrantes que pululan marcados por su condición de extranjeros, de “otros” en una tierra que no es la suya y en la cual fracasan. El teatro de Discépolo es un documento social; en consecuencia, sus personajes testimonian la importancia de este autor como una voz literaria, histórica y política de su país y su tiempo.es-ES
dc.descriptionIn the theater of Armando Discépolo, the characters act as grotesque cartoons of every day life situations in an Argentina in the threshold of modernity at the beginning of the twentieth- century, when adaptation to social change was difficult, especially for immigrants. In his works, Discépolo displays deformed, incongruous characters, with serious flaws often derived from their migrant status and their being foreigners, “others” in a land not their own and in which they fail. Discépolo’s plays are social documents, and its characters attest to the importance of this playwright as a literary, historical and a political voice of his time.en-US
