dc.descriptionMor de Fuentes’s La Serafina (1807) is a novel widely studied by literary critics. It has been linked to different literary movements without there being a definite consensus on which one it can ascribe to; on the other hand, although the same author confessed to having been inspired by Goethe, it does not seem clear to what extent Werther influenced this piece. This article tries to clarify these questions in order to specify how this turned out to be a renewing novel; a careful analysis allows us to affirm that, although it is a novel, its interest is fundamentally lyrical, and that lyricism is specified in a vision of the beloved woman as a way to achieve an ideal of perfection, which will be partly influenced by ideas by Esteban de Arteaga, and that, unlike what happened in Werther, will end up materializing in the narrative and satisfying the protagonist’s fantasies, despite how unrealistic this may be.en-US
dc.descriptionLa Serafina de Mor de Fuentes (1807) es una novela extensamente estudiada por la crítica literaria. Se ha vinculado con diferentes movimientos literarios sin que haya consenso definido sobre a cuál puede adscribirse; por otra parte, aunque el mismo autor confesó haberse visto inspirado por Goethe, no parece quedar claro hasta qué punto influyó el Werther en esta obra. El presente artículo pretende esclarecer estas cuestiones a fin de precisar en qué modo resultó esta una novela renovadora; un análisis detenido nos permite afirmar que, aunque se trata de una novela, su interés es fundamentalmente lírico y ese lirismo se concreta en una visión de la mujer amada como vía para alcanzar un ideal de perfección, que estará en parte influido por las ideas de Esteban de Arteaga, y que, a diferencia de lo ocurrido en el Werther, se acabará materializando en la narración y satisfaciendo las fantasías del protagonista, pese a lo poco realista que esto pueda resultar.es-ES
