dc.description	In the current context of searching for alternatives to the pension system in Chile, this study focuses on the historical trajectory of mutualism through a thorough review of original sources. The research proposes an interpretation centered on cultural, social, and economic factors. Contrary to what has been asserted by historiography, it is argued that mutualism did not enter its terminal crisis after the enactment of the Social Insurance Law in 1924. While the Great Depression of 1929 affected these organizations, it needs to be contextualized as part of a generalized crisis scenario since the early 20th century. This allowed mutualist organizations to recover and expand again in the following decades until the 1970s. However, crises continued to occur and deepened due to various factors. Among them, the attributions granted by the State to the Confederación Mutualista de Chile in 1963 stand out, as well as the impact of repressive measures and cultural transformations associated with the economic model implemented during the civic-military dictatorship. The research is based on unpublished documentation from the Confederación Mutualista de Chile, significantly enriching our understanding of mutualism in the country and shedding light on its historical evolution and current challenges.	en-US
dc.description	En el contexto actual de búsqueda de alternativas al sistema de pensiones en Chile, este estudio se enfoca en la trayectoria histórica del mutualismo mediante una revisión exhaustiva de fuentes originales. La investigación propone una interpretación centrada en factores culturales, sociales y económicos. Contrariamente a lo sostenido por la historiografía, se plantea que el mutualismo no inició su crisis terminal tras la promulgación de la ley del Seguro Obrero en 1924. Si bien la Gran Depresión de 1929 afectó a estas organizaciones, hay que contextualizarla como parte de un escenario de crisis generalizada desde principios del siglo XX. Esto permitió que las organizaciones mutualistas se recuperaran y volvieran a expandirse en las décadas siguientes, hasta la llegada de los años 1970. No obstante, las crisis continuaron sucediéndose y se profundizaron debido a varios factores. Entre ellos se destacan las atribuciones otorgadas por el Estado a la Confederación Mutualista de Chile en 1963, así como el impacto de las medidas represivas y las transformaciones culturales asociadas al modelo económico implementado durante la dictadura cívico-militar. La investigación se basa en la documentación inédita de la Confederación Mutualista de Chile, lo que enriquece considerablemente nuestra comprensión del mutualismo en el país y permite arrojar luz sobre su evolución histórica y sus desafíos actuales.	es-ES
