Abstract
Within the framework of the advanced process of population aging, in which “Chile is on the way to being the oldest country on the continent in the next 20 years” (MINSAL, 2019), this study is aimed at exploring the minimum necessary skills for the undergraduate training of students in the area of health, in order to meet the health needs of the elderly in a timely, relevant and quality manner, in the different areas of social and health care.The proposed objectives seek to investigate the knowledge, skills and attitudes that constitute the professional competences to intervene in older people with different health conditions. For this, a bibliographic review was carried out.The discussion focused on analyzing the geronto-geriatric competencies required in the training of health professionals according to the reviewed literature in contrast to the Chilean reality, reviewed from the point of view of what is declared in the curricula of health professionals. in the field of geronto-geriatrics, confirming dissimilar realities and in general a rather scarce training.The proposed objectives seek to investigate the knowledge, skills and attitudes that constitute the professional competences to intervene in older people with different health conditions. En el marco del proceso avanzado de envejecimiento poblacional, en el que Chile está en vías de ser el país más envejecido del continente en los próximos 20 años, el presente estudio se orienta a explorar las competencias mínimas necesarias para la formación de pregrado en los estudiantes del área de la salud, a fin de atender de manera oportuna, pertinente y con calidad, las necesidades de salud de las personas mayores, en los diferentes ámbitos de atención sociosanitaria, Este estudio hace un acercamiento al tema por medio de una revisión narrativa.Los objetivos planteados buscan indagar en los conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes que constituyen las competencias profesionales básicas para intervenir a personas mayores con diferentes condiciones de salud. La discusión se centró en analizar las competencias geronto-geriátricas requeridas en la formación de profesionales de la salud, de acuerdo con la literatura revisada.
