dc.descriptionThis chapter analyzes John Witte Jr.’s contribution to the study of the relationship between Christianity and law as an autonomous branch within the broad field that studies the relationship between law and religion. First, the chapter presents Witte as a Christian jurist educated in Reformed Protestantism and influenced by Abraham Kuyper and Harold J. Berman, among others. Second, the chapter describes and evaluates the interdisciplinary, interdenominational, and international project on Christianity and law headed by Witte, to which more than five hundred scholars (jurists, theologians, philosophers, historians, and sociologists) are contributing. Witte analyzes the interaction between Christianity and law from a relational, biographical, and jurisprudential perspective. Underlying his project is the idea that the relationship between Christianity and law is not merely accidental, but has a metahistorical significance and an enduring value for the development of humanity. Although the project has already borne much fruit, there is room for further maturity and methodological purity as it is still in its early stages.en-US
dc.descriptionEste capítulo analiza la contribución de John Witte, Jr. al estudio de las relaciones entre cristianismo y derecho como rama autónoma dentro del amplio campo que estudia las relaciones entre el derecho y la religión. En primer lugar, se presenta la figura de John Witte como jurista cristiano, educado en el protestantismo reformado e influido, ente otros, por Abraham Kuyper y Harold J. Berman. En segundo lugar, se describe y evalúa el proyecto interdisciplinar, interdenominacional e internacional sobre cristianismo y derecho que Witte lidera y que cuenta, en nuestros días, con la colaboración de más de quinientos académicos (juristas, teólogos, filósofos, historiadores, o sociólogos) en su mayoría protestantes, católicos y ortodoxos. Witte analiza la interacción entre cristianismo y derecho desde una perspectiva relacional, biográfica y jurisprudencial. En la base del proyecto subyace la idea de que la relación entre cristianismo y derecho no es meramente accidental, sino que tiene un significado metahistórico y un valor permanente para el desarrollo de la humanidad. El proyecto, aunque ya haya dado muchos frutos, requiere de una mayor madurez y pureza metodológica ya que se encuentra todavía en sus primeras fases. es-ES
