This article examines the transformation of the Comptroller General of the Republic into a relevant guardian of administrative legality between the 1940s and 1960s. It is argued that this transformation of the Comptroller General in Chile brought it closer to the National Congress through constitutional reform in 1943, the impeachment of comptroller Agustín Vigorena, and a series of legal reforms that tried to find a balance between the need for legal accountability and expeditious administrative action. In addition, this paper examines how in this period the Comptroller General’s Office became involved in a series of political conflicts with President Carlos Ibáñez and developed into an attractive institution for both researchers and young, academically inclined lawyers.Este artículo examina la transformación de la Contraloría General de la República en un relevante guardián de la legalidad administrativa entre las décadas de 1940 y 1960. Se argumenta que esta transformación de la Contraloría General en Chile la acercó al Congreso Nacional a través de la reforma constitucional de 1943, la acusación constitucional del contralor Agustín Vigorena, y una serie de reformas legales intentaron de encontrar un balance entre la necesidad de control jurídico y de acción administrativa expedita. Además, este trabajo analiza cómo en este período la Contraloría General se involucró en una serie de conflictos políticos con el Presidente Carlos Ibáñez y se convirtió en una institución atractiva tanto para los investigadores como para jóvenes abogados con inclinaciones académicas.
