Spirometry is a fundamental test in the evaluation of respiratory mechanics, with a low cost and acceptable repeatability. Considering the importance of applying standardized procedures to perform spirometry, in 2006 the committee of pulmonary function specialists of the Chilean Respiratory Society (SER), published the first manual of procedures to perform spirometry. In 2014, reference equations for Chilean adults were published and in 2018 an update of the manual was published. However, in 2019 and 2022 ATS and ERS have published important changes both in the technique for performing spirometry and in its interpretation. The objective of this publication is to update the 2018 Chilean procedures manual to the national reality, adjusting it to the new standards and concept in spirometry both in pediatrics and in adults.La espirometría es una prueba fundamental en la evaluación de mecánica respiratoria, con un bajo costo y adecuada repetibilidad. Considerando la importancia de aplicar procedimientos estanda­rizados para realizar espirometrías, el año 2006 el comité de especialistas en función pulmonar de la Sociedad Chilena de Enfermedades Respiratorias (SER), publicó el primer manual de procedimientos para realizar espirometrías. El año 2014 se publicaron ecuaciones de referencia para adultos chilenos y el 2018 se publicó una actualización del manual. Sin embargo, en los años 2019 y 2022 ATS y ERS han publicado importantes cambios tanto en la técnica como en su interpretación. El objetivo de esta publicación es actualizar el manual de procedimientos del 2018 a la realidad nacional ajustándolo a los nuevos estándares y criterios tanto en pediatría y como en adultos.
