This article aims to analyze the sufficiency and relevance of the knowledge, competence, skills and pedagogical guidelines for the implementation of the gesture in interactions with infants, given in three ministerial documents that ensure the quality of education in Chile. Of the documents were extracted the given guidelines that give an account of gestural language and were analyzed with different sources. The results point out that, although they are appropriate, they are not enough to determine that educators in training and professional educators can implement them in their interactions. Based on these results, it is concluded that the institutions in charge of the initial teacher education must guarantee the minimal guidelines given from the ministry of education. To contribute to this necessity, this research provides suggestions of research and strategies for the implementation of gestural language in interactions with infants.Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la suficiencia y pertinencia de los saberes, competencias, habilidades y orientaciones pedagógicas para la implementación del gesto en las interacciones con infantes, otorgados en tres documentos ministeriales que velan por la calidad de la educación en Chile. Se extrajo de estos documentos los lineamientos otorgados que dan cuenta del uso del lenguaje gestual y se analizaron con distintas fuentes. Los resultados señalan que estos lineamientos, si bien son pertinentes no son suficientes para determinar que los educadores en formación y ejercicio profesional puedan incluirlos en sus interacciones. A partir de estos resultados, se concluye que las instituciones a cargo de la Formación Inicial Docente, deben garantizar los lineamientos mínimos otorgados por el Ministerio de Educación. Aportando a esta necesidad, este estudio proporciona algunas sugerencias de investigaciones y estrategias para la implementación del lenguaje gestual en las interacciones con infantes.
