The paper, based on a prose text written by Gabriela Mistral, and taking into account her written work as a whole, examines 1) the origin of their first contact with the Bible, 2) the specific edition of the Biblical History that she could read in the school, 3) the Spanish Biblical version that she probably managed, and 4) the meaning of the Bible and its influence on the personal life and the written work of the great Chilean poet.El ensayo, partiendo de un texto en prosa escrito por Gabriela Mistral, y teniendo en cuenta el conjunto de su obra, estudia: 1) el origen de su contacto primero con la Biblia, 2) la edición de la Historia Sagrada que pudo leer en la escuela, 3) la versión bíblica que probablemente manejó, y 4) el significado de la Biblia y su influencia en la persona y la obra de la gran poeta chilena.
