The First Synod of Temuco in 1968 is paradigmatic of the numerous synods that were celebrated in Chile immediately after the Second Vatican Council. It represents a prophetic discernment ahead of its time. Many of its proposals have shaped the pastoral journey of the diocese to this day, but others were either quickly forgotten or diluted over time. Along with presenting the historical development of the Synod, its agreements, and main tasks, this work aims to approach its central core and reflect on the reasons behind the neglect of many of its contributions, as well as the aspects of its teaching that need to be recovered and those others in which it is possible to advance.El primer Sínodo de Temuco de 1968 es paradigmático de los numerosos sínodos que fueron celebrados en Chile inmediatamente después del Concilio Vaticano II y constituye un discernimiento profético, adelantado a su tiempo. Muchas de sus propuestas han marcado el caminar pastoral de la diócesis hasta nuestros días, pero otras, o fueron olvidadas prontamente o se diluyeron con el tiempo. Junto con presentar el desarrollo histórico del Sínodo, de sus acuerdos y tareas principales, este trabajo intenta una aproximación a su núcleo central y reflexiona sobre las razones del olvido de muchos de sus aportes, así como también sobre aquellos aspectos de su enseñanza que son necesarios de recuperar y de aquellos otros en los que es posible avanzar.
