dc.descriptionThis article explores the visual description and the erotic gaze within the Spanish Amadís de Gaula and the French and English versions. I argue that the translations develop a publishing strategy which recovers aspects of the romantic dimension from the original theses to offer an attractive product, appealing to the audience through the narration and the visual aspects of the book as object. By means of the paratexts, the woodcuts, and the detailed description in the main text, the new versions invite male and female readers to share the experience of the characters in their observation of their objects of desire. The narrated and visual images included in the text give relevance to the physical aspect of the scenes and show the arousal of the characters before and during the sexual act. Thus, the new versions appeal to the readers so they can recall their own sexual identity while enjoying the literary experience.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo explora la descripción visual y la mirada erótica en el Amadís de Gaula español y en sus versiones en francés e inglés. Propongo que las traducciones desarrollan una estrategia editorial que rescata del original estos aspectos de la dimensión amorosa para ofrecer un producto llamativo, apelando al público a través de la narración y de aspectos visuales del libro como objeto. Por medio de los paratextos, ilustraciones y de una descripción detallada en el texto principal, las nuevas versiones invitan a lectores y lectoras a compartir con los personajes la observación de sus objetos de deseo. Las imágenes narradas y visuales incorporadas al texto le dan más relevancia al carácter físico de las escenas y muestran la excitación de los personajes antes y durante el acto sexual. De esta manera, las nuevas versiones apelan a que el público lector evoque su propia identidad sexual, mientras disfruta de la experiencia literaria.es-ES
