The following article analyzes the written discourse of the book Una fuente de luz, tracing some of the roots behind the modern rhetoric used in the text. Although the book exhibits the design of the corporate typography of the National Library of Chile, it is emphatic in defending the theoretical-historical research that founds the graphics as its true essence and value, unveiling a certain “iconophobia”, where the notion of ‘background’ prevails over that of “form”. The analysis of these aspects allows us to consider both the validity of the modern discourse, as well as some of its limitations.El siguiente artículo analiza el discurso escrito del libro Una fuente de luz, rastreando algunas de las raíces tras la retórica moderna utilizada en el texto. Aunque el libro exhibe el diseño de la tipografía corporativa de la Biblioteca Nacional de Chile, es enfático en defender la investigación teórico-histórica que fundamenta la gráfica como su verdadera esencia y valor, develando una cierta “iconofobia”, donde la noción de “fondo” prevalece sobre la de “forma”. El análisis de estos aspectos permite considerar tanto la vigencia del discurso moderno, así como algunas de sus limitaciones.
