The Aristotelian concept of anagnorisis has been studied in earlier literary traditions, but it has hardly been applied to contemporary texts. The latter include twentieth-century Spanish narrative written in the context of the civil war and the exile of 1939, circumstances that involved many separations, returns and reunions. In this article we aim to analyse the particularities of these recognitions in the short stories included in Francisco Ayala's La cabeza del cordero (1949). In doing so, we intend to demonstrate that these anagnorises are far from corresponding to the classical patterns stipulated for the Greco-Latin epic or the theatre of the Spanish Golden Age, as well as to highlight the need to address, in future research, this same review of the agnitions in other works of this canon.El concepto aristotélico de anagnórisis ha sido estudiado en tradiciones literarias pretéritas, pero apenas se ha aplicado a textos contemporáneos. Entre estos últimos se incluye la narrativa española del siglo XX escrita en la coyuntura de la guerra civil y del exilio de 1939, unas circunstancias que tantas separaciones, retornos y reencuentros implicaron. En el artículo nos proponemos analizar las particularidades de estos reconocimientos en los cuentos incluidos en La cabeza del cordero (1949) de Francisco Ayala. Pretendemos, con ello, demostrar que estas anagnórisis distan de corresponderse con los modelos clásicos estipulados para la épica grecolatina o el teatro del Siglo de Oro, así como evidenciar la necesidad de abordar, en futuras investigaciones, esta misma revisión de las agniciones en otras obras de este canon.
