The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of electronic signatures on the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery at the Civil Registry and Identification Service of Chile during the years 2002-2016. This work is qualitative and quantitative in nature and exploratory in character, using deductive and monographic methods. Data was collected using documentary techniques and semi-structured interviews with leading experts in the field, based on purposive sampling, for subsequent triangulation. Regarding the results obtained, it should be noted that the electronic signature increased the levels of efficiency and effectiveness of this service during the period indicated. In fact, it increased efficiency levels because it significantly reduced document processing times. Similarly, it allowed for paper savings and reduced operating costs since the documents are electronic and there is a trend toward submitting more online, which reduced waiting lines. On the other hand, it increased levels of effectiveness based on the logic that, with its use, the service recorded an improvement in the service provided and the satisfaction of its employees and users, having received the 2006 National Consumer Satisfaction Award and, from 2009 until then, having received good ratings in evaluations of the quality of service provided to users.La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la incidencia de la firma electrónica en la eficiencia y eficacia de entrega de servicios en el Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación de Chile durante los años 2002-2016. Este trabajo es de naturaleza cualitativa y cuantitativa, adopta el carácter exploratorio en el que se usó el método deductivo y monográfico. Para la recolección de datos, fue aplicada la técnica documental y la entrevista semiestructurada a los principales expertos sobre la materia con base en el muestreo intencionado, para una posterior triangulación de los mismos. En cuanto a los resultados obtenidos, cabe hacer notar que la firma electrónica aumentó los niveles de eficiencia y eficacia de este servicio durante el periodo señalado. En efecto, aumentó los niveles de eficiencia porque, se logró disminuir significativamente los tiempos de trámite de documentos. De igual modo, esta permitió ahorro de papel y reducción de costes operacionales ya que los documentos son electrónicos y se aprecia una tendencia de entregar más en línea, lo que disminuyó las filas de espera. Por otro lado, aumentó los niveles de eficacia bajo la lógica de que, con su uso, el servicio registró mejora del servicio prestado y la satisfacción a sus funcionarios y usuarios, habiendo recibido el Premio Nacional de Satisfacción de los Consumidores 2006 y, desde el 2009 hasta entonces, ha recibido buenas calificaciones en las evaluaciones sobre la calidad de atención prestada a los usuarios.
