dc.descriptionThe current regulatory framework allows generating plants to be installed whose operation is detrimental to the places where they are located without a social and democratic dialogue. Although there have been multiple advances in recent times, they seem to be only proposals, without attacking the structural roots of the problem, which generates and perpetuates various socio-environmental conflicts around electricity generation. The objective of this research would be to analyze processes and results of the Santa María and Bocamina I and II thermoelectric plants in the commune of Coronel (Chile) in the period 2012-2017 from a structural perspective to demonstrate the development model. The chosen methodology is qualitative, and the collection of information was carried out through semi-structured interviews and documentary research, to then apply critical discourse analysis. Regarding the results, it is evident that 4 of the 5 thermoelectric plants use fossil fuels and pollutants, in addition the Santa María and Bocamina I and II thermoelectric plants intend to be an electrical alternative in the face of water shortages through the construction of community projects.en-US
dc.description  El marco regulatorio actual permite que se instalen plantas generadoras cuyo funcionamiento va en desmedro de los lugares en que se encuentran emplazadas sin un diálogo social y democrático Si bien han existido múltiples avances en el último tiempo parecen ser sólo propuestas, sin atacar las raíces estructurales del problema, lo que genera y perpetúa diversos conflictos socioambientales en torno a la generación de electricidad. El objetivo de esta investigación sería analizar procesos y resultados de las termoeléctricas Santa María y Bocamina I y II en la comuna de Coronel (Chile) en el periodo 2012-2017 desde una perspectiva estructural para evidenciar el modelo de desarrollo. La metodología escogida es cualitativa y la recopilación de información se realizó a través de entrevistas semi-estructuradas e investigación documental, para luego aplicar análisis crítico de discurso. Respecto de los resultados se evidencia que 4 de las 5 centrales termoeléctricas utilizan combustibles fósiles y contaminantes, además las termoeléctricas Santa María y Bocamina I y II pretenden ser una alternativa eléctrica ante la escasez de agua a través de la construcción de proyectos comunitarios.es-ES
