León Guanajuato, a Mexican city, is developing the León Human and Intelligent City Project, which has as its objetive make it the first city with this name of the entity. The objective of this case study was to contrast the Leonese experience with the literature on Smart Cities and with the results of the IMCO Urban Competitiveness Index, which measures the capacities of cities to impact in the welfare  of their citizens. The elements that a smart city should have and the initiative were contrasted. In a general way it is observed that this type of interventions that seek to transform cities can generate risks by becoming an amalgam of technological innovations if they are not able to focus on the needs of its inhabitants. Finally, some successes and challenges were identified in the project of making León a smart city.León Guanajuato, ciudad mexicana, puso en marcha el Proyecto León Ciudad Humana e Inteligente que busca convertirla en la primera ciudad bajo esta denominación de la entidad. El objetivo de este estudio de caso fue contrastar la experiencia leonesa con la bibliografía en materia de Ciudades Inteligentes y con los resultados del Índice de Competitividad Urbana de IMCO el cual mide las capacidades de las ciudades para impactar en el bienestar de sus ciudadanos. Se contrastaron los elementos que una ciudad inteligente debería tener con la iniciativa analizada, así mismo de manera general se observa que este tipo de intervenciones que buscan transformar las ciudades pueden generar riesgos al convertirse en una amalgama de innovaciones tecnológicas si no se logran focalizar en las necesidades de sus habitantes. Por último, se identificaron algunos aciertos y retos en el proyecto de hacer de León una ciudad inteligente.
