This article examines the ethical, political, and cultural dilemmas posed by the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the construction of historical memory and the visual representation of human rights violations in Latin America. Through case studies in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, it analyses experiences where generative AI was used to recreate the faces of disappeared persons, illegally appropriated children, or victims of repression, raising controversies regarding historical authenticity, emotional impact, and the risks of disinformation. The text argues that original photographs are not only documents but also testimonies and symbols in the struggle for truth, justice, and reparation. It also highlights the implicit biases within algorithms that may distort historical portrayals and displace authentic images in digital environments. Finally, it calls for a critical appropriation of these technologies, grounded in context, digital literacy, and regulation, to ensure their ethical use in strengthening collective memory and human rights.en-US
