This article aims to analyze jazz in Mexico between the 1920s and 1950s from the perspective of the theory of production, distribution, exchange, and consumption. It is distinguished by its status as a form of dance entertainment and mass consumption that developed under specific historical conditions. These conditions included, on the one hand, the concentration and production of capital and technological development; on the other, the social and psychological effects of World War I and the influenza pandemic, which facilitated, among other things, the distribution and consumption not only of jazz but also of other rhythms such as the Charleston, foxtrot, one-step, son, and danzón. Mexican, Cuban, and African American performers participated as instruments of production.El artículo tiene por objeto analizar el jazz en México entre los decenios de 1920 y 1950 a partir de la teoría de la producción, distribución, intercambio y consumo. Se distingue por ser un entretenimiento bailable y consumo individual de masas que se dio bajo condiciones históricas determinadas. Por un lado, por la concentración y producción de capital y desarrollo tecnológico. Por el otro, por los efectos sociales y psicológicos ocasionados por la primera guerra y la pandemia de la influenza, lo cual hizo posible, entre otras, la distribución y el consumo no solo del jazz, sino de otros ritmos como charlestón, foxtrot, one steps, son y danzón. Participaron, como instrumentos de producción, intérpretes mexicanos, cubanos y afroamericanos.
