Beginning with the establishment of the Court in Madrid and the role of middle class in the Old Regime, the origin of the association of the Five Greatest unions is studied, as well as their regulations and their functions as a mercantile institution -when changing into a society privileged by shares-, and as a pre-capitalist financing institution and antecedent of the modern banking.Partiendo del establecimiento de la Corte en Madrid y del papel de la burguesía en el Antiguo Régimen, se estudia el origen de la asociación de los Cinco Gremios Mayores, sus ordenanzas y sus funciones como institución mercantil -al convertirse en una sociedad privilegiada por acciones-, y como institución financiera precapitalista y antecedente de la banca moderna.
