La intervención de los estudiantes en sus centros educativos es considerada, desde la pers­pectiva de la educación activa, un medio y fin del aprendizaje de la participación, a la vez que motor de la formación ciudadana. Sin embargo, esta temática también se encuentra entre los principales puntos de desencuentro entre jóvenes y adultos, especialmente por las diferencias en los niveles de participación alcanzados dentro y fuera de la escuela. En este sentido, la siguiente investigación —realizada con una metodología mixta— aborda aspectos claves sobre lo que la institución escolar ofrece en materia de participación y la perspectiva que los jóvenes han desarrollado en la educación chilena. Los resultados de este diálogo revelan diferencias que pueden ser un interesante potencial de transforma­ción escolar en tiempos de cambio del sistema educativo.Abstract The participation of the students in their educational centers is considered from the pers­pective of active education as a means and goal of the learning of participation and at the same time the core of citizenship formation. However, this topic is also found as one of the main points of disagreement between youngsters and adults, especially because of the differences in the levels of participation reached in and out of school. In this sense, the present research —developed with mixed methodology— approaches key aspects about what the school institution offers in connection with the participation and the perspecti­ve that the young ones have developed in the Chilean education. The results of this dialog reveal differences that may be an interesting transformational school potential in times of change of the educational system.
