| dc.description | Formal social control, specifically justice and police institutions, is one of the less treated topics by regional historic studies in Cuba . The most of investigations related with this institutions, are valuations about repressive roles of the independent movement of XIX century or the Cuban burgess republic. Present article is an analysis of justice and police institutions in Pinar del Río City between 1938 and 1958, and it is based in the actuation against urban criminality, considering social behavior of his members, the motive of his acts, and popular opinions about efficiency of this institutions to granted public security. | en-US |

La mayoría de las investigaciones de este corte se acercan colateralmente a estas instituciones para valorar sus roles represivos de los movimientos independentistas del siglo XIX o de la República burguesa. El presente artículo se acerca al análisis de la justicia y la policía en la ciudad de Pinar del Río, Cuba, en el período 1938-1958, y se basa en su actuación contra la criminalidad común en una ciudad en franco crecimiento, tomando en consideración la conducta social de sus miembros, los móviles determinantes de su actuación y las opiniones de la población sobre la efectividad de sus miembros para garantizar la seguridad pública. | es-ES |
