| dc.description | The notion of language ideology has been widely used in the study of the speakers‘ ideas about languages. Notwithstanding, the concept has dark zones that has not been tackled sufficiently in the theoretical propositions on the matter. This work outlines that these undeveloped aspects must not be seen as insurmountable limitations, but as an opportunity to establish an interdisciplinary approach to the speakers‘ ideas about languages. By this way, with sociology of language as a starting point, combining the notion of language ideology with the theory of social representations it is suggested. Language ideologies thus are comprehended as systems of social representations about the linguistic market, the speakers and the relations language-culture and language-identity, which support the status quo of the sociolinguistic relationships, or defy this one in order to modify it.

| dc.description | La noción de ideología lingüística ha sido utilizada ampliamente en el estudio de las ideas que los hablantes tienen sobre las lenguas. No obstante, el concepto contiene algunas zonas oscuras que no han sido suficientemente abordadas en las formulaciones teóricas al respecto. El presente trabajo se propone concebir estos intersticios no como limitaciones insalvables del enfoque, sino como una oportunidad para establecer una aproximación interdisciplinaria a las ideas de los hablantes sobre las lenguas. De este modo, se sugiere, desde la sociología del lenguaje, conjugar la noción de ideología lingüística con la teoría de las representaciones sociales. Así, se comprende a las ideologías lingüísticas como sistemas de representaciones sociales sobre el mercado lingüístico, los hablantes y las relaciones lengua-cultura y lengua-identidad, que se ajustan al status quo de las relaciones sociolingüísticas, o bien lo desafían con el fin de modificarlo.
