| dc.description | El presente artículo analiza las rivalidades existentes entre el régimen militar de Pinochet, la Iglesia Católica y la Iglesia Evangélica Pentecostal en la zona norte de Chile, en especial en Iquique a través de la prensa escrita, y en forma concreta en La Estrella de Iquique, que asume la defensa del régimen militar y de los pentecostales. El análisis de dos eventos con una fuerte cobertura periodística, como fue el caso de la Escuela de Verano y el crecimiento evangélico en el altiplano chileno, sirven para expresar en términos regionales los conflictos políticos y religiosos que se desarrollaron también en Santiago.

The present article analyses the rivalries existing between Pinochet’s military regime, the Catholic Church y the Evangelical Pentecost Church in the northen parí of Chile, especially in Iquique, as expressed in the written press, more concretely in “La Estrella de Iquique” which took up the defense of both the military regime y the Pentecost Church members. The analysis of two events with strong press coverage, such as the Summer School y Evangelical growth in the Chilean high plateau (altiplano), helped to express in regional terms the política) y religious con flicts which also developed in Santiago.
