El trabajo atiende las distintas propuestas formuladas por las asociaciones de industriales y comerciantes de la ciudad, como también las iniciativas provenientes desde el sector público, sea el Municipio o las instituciones para-estatales, tendientes a suplir la gran depresión que afectaba a la entonces provincia, a raíz de los efectos de la crisis bursátil mundial y de la que concernía a la salitrera, coincidentes entre l929-1930, cuyas consecuencias se dejan sentir en el plano social y económico en Antofagasta. Son de interés las ideas en torno a rescatar la actividad agrícola en la ciudad y su hinterland como también las concernientes a un proceso embrionario de industrialización con antelación a la creación de la CORFO. This work deals with the various proposals put forward by the Antofagasta industrial and commercial organizations, as well as the initiatives originating in the public sector, both the City Hall and para-governmental institutions. These proposals were directed to lessen the great depression affecting the province at that time, which was due to the world‘s stock market crisis and the crisis that affected the nitrate industry, both of which coincided between 1929 and 1930, and whose consequences had an effect on the social and economic situation of the city.
