| dc.description | Este artículo es un análisis de la figura del intelectual dentro de la teoría social desde el Iluminismo hasta la Posmodernidad con la finalidad de hacer una clasificación y descripción de las distintas nociones de intelectual y de los atributos o funciones que se les otorga. Dicha clasificación de la figura intelectual permitirá debatir las implicaciones del trabajo intelectual en sociedades contemporáneas y especialmente abonará a un debate en torno a los intelectuales y su papel en sociedades democráticas en las que se suele diagnosticar su declive o muerte. El artículo concluye que a pesar de la desdibujada noción de la figura de intelectual que impera actualmente, los intelectuales siguen teniendo una importancia política y social que necesita ser repensada.

This article is an analysis of the figure of the intellectual within the social theory from Enlightenment to Postmodernity in order to make a classification and description of the different notions of intellectual and their attributes or functions. This classification of the intellectual figure will promote a discussion of the implications of intellectual work in contemporary societies and especially will pave the way for a debate about intellectuals and their role in democratic societies where their decline or death is usually diagnosed. The article concludes that despite the blurred notion of the current intellectual figure, intellectuals still have a political and social importance that needs to be reconsidered.
