dc.description	El propósito de este artículo es describir y analizar las diversas agencias y proyectos viales que buscaron articular a Tocopilla con Iquique desde 1888, considerando a dicho camino como un medio para superar algunas crisis locales. Se sitúa el énfasis en las acciones del Comando Costero Tocopilla al Loa fundado en 1968, grupo de voluntarios que emprendió la construcción de una carretera costera hasta Iquique logrando su objetivo en 1971. Del mismo modo, se analiza el devenir del camino y de la ciudad de Tocopilla hasta 1994, periodo de pavimentación y consolidación de la ruta a Iquique. The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the various road agencies and projects that sought to articulate Tocopilla with Iquique since 1888, considering this road as a means to overcome some local crises. The emphasis is placed on the actions of the Comando Costero Tocopilla al Loa founded in 1968, a group of volunteers that undertook the construction of a coastal highway to Iquique, achieving its objective in 1971. In the same way, the future of the road and the city are analyzed until 1994, period of paving and consolidation of the route to Iquique. Keywords: Road coastal, route B-1, Tocopilla, Iquique.	es-ES
