| dc.description | The origin of the university in Canarias goes back to 1701 when a new advanced educational centre was created in relation to the settlement of Augustans in San Cristobal de La Laguna. During the 300 years that passed since the establishment of the advanced educational centre, it has had multiple repercussions on the configuration of the main urban space of Tenerife.This work presents a reflection on the role that the University has played in the territorial construction of the metropolitan area of Tenerife, which represents a matter of inquiry that can be deal with later with more precision, emphasizing the characteristics of the relationship between the University and the city. This first approach presents a critical view that is also propositive, based on the belief that the University represents a valuable factor for local development. | en-US |
| dc.description | Los orígenes de la actividad universitaria en Canarias se remontan a 1701, año en que se establece un centro de estudios superiores relacionado con la implantación de los religiosos agustinos en San Cristóbal de La Laguna. En los 300 años que van desde el establecimiento del centro de estudios superiores, ha tenido múltiples repercusiones en la conformación del principal espacio urbano de Tenerife.Este trabajo se plantea como un ejercicio de reflexión acerca del papel que ha desempeñado la Universidad en la construcción territorial de la conurbación capitalina de Tenerife, asunto que puede ser objeto de investigaciones posteriores realizadas con mayor profundidad, enfatizando las características de la relación que se produce entre el centro superior y la ciudad. Esta primera aproximación presenta una perspectiva crítica, pero también propositiva, basado en que la Universidad constituye un extraordinario recurso y factor de desarrollo local. | es-ES |
