Al analizar el estado de la periferia en la ciudad real, detectar una superposición de dificultades en los ámbitos físicos, conceptuales y sociales, que hacen necesario un modelo de intervención encaminado a conseguir su regeneración urbana integrada. Sin embargo, las medidas se ponen en marcha hasta el momento, vistas desde una perspectiva normativa e histórica, se atienen en su parte principal a una exclusiva nacional. Mediante el estudio de la rehabilitación urbana del Poblado Dirigido de Caño Roto, Madrid, un conjunto de vivienda protegida entre 1957 y 1963 y rehabilitado entre 1994 y 2004, se examina en qué medida afecta la intervención, estructura y funcionamiento de la edificación y de la urbanización, a la evolución posterior del área. Para ello, se trata de los problemas que afectan a la relación del conjunto con la ciudad, es decir a su conectividad, y que que condicionan su complejidad urbana. De tal manera que comprime si el proceso físico sirve para impulsar la integración del conjunto, o si por el contrario ha sido completado con otro tipo de acciones específicas.   Upon analyzing the state of the periphery in contemporary cities, it is possible to detect overlapping difficulties in physical, conceptual and social spheres, which necessitate an intervention model aimed at the integrated urban regeneration of this area. However, the interventions undertaken so far, as viewed from a normative and historical perspective, have largely been based on entirely physical actions. By studying the urban renovation of Caño Roto, Madrid --a social housing complex built between 1957 and 1963, and renovated between 1994 and 2004-- the effects of the structural and functional interventions to the building and the development on the subsequent evolution of the area are examined. To this end, the issues that affect the relationship between the complex and the city, that is to say its connectivity, and those that condition its urban complexity, are discussed. Hence, this research verifies if the physical process serves as an impulse for the integration of the complex, or if on the contrary, it must be complemented with other types of specific actions.
