| dc.description | El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la evolución espacial de la ocupación de residuos mineros producto de la actividad calera en un área del Departamento Sarmiento, Provincia de San Juan, Argentina.En este caso se estudia el Distrito Minero Los Berros, cuya principal actividad económica es la extracción e industrialización de la piedra caliza para la obtención de cales.Este distrito se ha caracterizado históricamente por constituir un importante polo calero industrial, iniciándose a partir de la década de 1940. Desde esa época fue aumentando progresivamente su importancia y actualmente el 70% de la producción de calcáreos de San Juan proviene de esta localidad.A lo largo de este lapso se ha producido una acumulación constante de residuos mineros, procedentes tanto de las canteras de explotación como de las plantas de tratamiento, produciendo impactos sobre el suelo y el paisaje. Para dimensionar ese impacto se realizó un análisis de su evolución espacial entre los años 1987 y 2010 y se proyectó su comportamiento al año 2022, considerando que se mantendrán las actuales condiciones de producción.La metodología aplicada consistió en un estudio multitemporal utilizando imágenes de satélites de los años 1987, 1994, 1999, 2005 y 2010. El procesamiento digital de estas imágenes permitió identificar la evolución espacial de las manchas de residuos.De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, se pudo concluir que ha producido un avance permanente de las áreas ocupadas por residuos, con una consecuente modificación del ambiente en la zona atribuible a un importante aumento de la producción. AbstractThe aim of this study was to determine the spatial evolution of the occupation of mining waste from lime industry in an area of Sarmiento Department, San Juan Province, Argentina.In this case the Mining District “Los Berros”, whose main economic activity is the extraction and industrialization of limestone to obtain limes was studied.This district has historically been characterized by constitute an important industrial pole of limes, starting from the 1940s. Since that time the lime industry has gradually increased its importance and currently 70% of the production of calcareous from San Juan province comes from this location.Throughout this period there has been a steady accumulation of mining waste from both exploitation of quarries and processing plants producing impacts on soil and landscape. To measure this impact an analysis of their spatial evolution between 1987 and 2010 was carried out and their behavior was projected to 2022, considering that the current production conditions will be maintained in time.The applied methodology consisted of a study using multitemporal satellite images for the years 1987, 1994, 1999, 2005 and 2010. The images digital processing allowed to identify the spatial evolution of the waste spots.According to the results obtained it was concluded that there has been a permanent advance of the areas occupied by waste, with consequent modification of the environment in the area attributable to a significant increase of limes production. | es-ES |
