dc.descriptionLos aborígenes de la Araucanía han sido objeto de estudios por parte de las diferentes disciplinas de las ciencias sociales desde el siglo XIX en adelante. Sin embargo, las diversas interpretaciones han conducido a ese conocimiento en perspectivas diferentes, motivando distintas controversias. Como resultado de esta situación - y desde los últimos treinta y ocho años-, se ha construido una imagen polarizada de dichos nativos.Pero esta imagen en la sociedad chilena – a la que denominamos imaginario – es consecuencia también de una serie de conductas y comportamientos reñidos con la convivencia nacional, sin perjuicio de las legítimas demandas que las motivan.Desconociendo la organización social de estos aborígenes, los diversos medios de comunicación han resaltado los reprochables actos de violencia, apoyándose en los variados juicios de valor emitidos por representantes de la clase política, cuyo conocimiento de los nativos de la Araucanía adolece de erudición.Por estas razones, consideramos fundamental recordar el aporte realizado a lo largo de los años por la Etnohistoria, la Antropología, la Historia y la Arqueología, pues se han soslayado, y en algunos casos, manipulado para fortalecer una imagen distinta y distante de esa realidad en la ciudadanía.es-ES
dc.descriptionThe aborigines of the Araucanía have been object of studies by the different disciplines of the social sciences from the century XIX onwards. However, the various interpretations have led to this knowledge in distinct perspectives, motivating varied controversies. As a result of this situation - and since the last thirty-eight years - a polarized image of these natives has been constructed.But this image in Chilean society – which we call imaginary – is also the result of a series of doings and behaviors that are at odds with national coexistence, without prejudice to the legitimate demands that motivate them.Unaware of the social organization of these aborigines, the various media communication had highlighted the reprehensible acts of violence, relying on the various value judgments issued by representatives of the political class, whose knowledge of the natives of the Araucanía lacks erudition.For these reasons we consider it fundamental to remember the contribution made over the years by ethnohistory, anthropology, history and archeology, since they have been avoided and, in some cases, manipulated to strengthen a different and distant image of that reality in the citizenship.en-US
