dc.descriptionThis work aims to demonstrate that the Orientalism and Occidentalism - being contradictory discourses- they are used in the same text by the Chilean writer Ines Echeverria, as a methodology or way for self definition. In her travel story to the East of the early twentieth century, she appropriates indistinct voices: a metropolitan voice according to European Orientalism, a Creole voice torn between hegemony and the periphery, and a more intimate discourse that can identify with the American voices. The author seeks to define her own voice through this contradictory game, in the middle of a world, a country, a society and a stratum with which she doesn't fully identifies.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo pretende demostrar que el orientalismo y el “antioccidentalismo” (u occidentalism como lo entienden Buruma y Margalit), siendo discursos contradictorios, son utilizados en un mismo texto por la escritora chilena Inés Echeverría como metodología o vía para su autodefinición. Se observará que en su relato de viaje al oriente de principios del siglo XX, Iris (seudónimo) se apropia de distintas voces. Así, desde una metropolitana acorde al orientalismo europeo, pasará a una voz criolla que se debate entre la hegemonía y la periferia, o a una más íntima que podría identificarse con esas voces americanas que siguen siendo sometidas. En ese vaivén discursivo contradictorio, la autora buscará definir su propia voz en medio de un mundo, un país, una sociedad y un estrato con los que no se identifica plenamente.es-ES
