dc.descriptionThis paper explains the relevance of situational simulations in the construction engineering and managementprocess. Most of the traditional simulations in construction belong to the optimization category. In contrast with theoptimization simulations, situational simulations are not based on the interrelationships and trade-off among measurablevariables. Situational simulations require the evaluation and interpretation of relevant information to "solve the crisis orproblem" and are appropriate for problems or situations that offer the rapid unfolding of events and the pressure fordecision-making. Situational simulations are also known as crisis management simulations, strategic simulations, and roleplayingsimulations. The construction engineering and management process is represented through three different models:the process model, the product model, and the information model. The process model represents the construction process,the product model symbolizes the physical facility that is being built, and the information model characterizes the datagenerated about the product and the process. A description of each model is presented in this paper in order to illustrate theconceptual framework needed to establish the foundation for situational simulations.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo explica la relevancia de las simulaciones en el proceso de ingeniería y gestión de la construcción.La mayoría de las simulaciones tradicionales en construcción pertenecen a la categoría de optimización. En contraste conlas simulaciones de optimización, las simulaciones situacionales no se basan en las interrelaciones y los equilibrios entrevariables mesurables. Las simulaciones situacionales requieren la evaluación e interpretación de información relevantepara “resolver la crisis o el problema” y son apropiadas para problemas o situaciones que ofrecen el desencadenamientorápido de eventos y la presión para la toma de decisiones. Las simulaciones situacionales son también conocidas comosimulaciones de manejo de crisis, simulaciones estratégicas, y juegos de rol. El proceso de ingeniería y gestión de laconstrucción es representado por medio de tres modelos diferentes: el modelo del proceso, el modelo del producto, y elmodelo de información. El modelo del proceso representa al proceso de construcción, el modelo del producto simboliza ala estructura física que se está construyendo, y el modelo de información caracteriza los datos generados acerca delproducto y del proceso. Una descripción de cada modelo es presentada en este artículo para ilustrar el marco conceptualnecesario para establecer la fundación de simulaciones situacionales.es-ES
