Este artículo analiza críticamente a las teorías modernizantes y reproductivistas en la investigación en educación, especialmente el dualismo que ambas proponen para entender la realidad. Por lo tanto, se discute la eficacia explicativa de estas teorías en realidades como la de los pueblos indígenas latinoamericanos. De tal modo se cuestiona la pretendida universalidad de dichas teorías. Se toman ejemplos de estudios sobre los aymaras de Tarapacá, Chile, realizados por investigadores que se orientaron por las teorías modernizantes y reproductivistas, para demostrar principalmente las dificultades teórico-metodológicas que significa la realidad indígena para una teoría occidental con pretensión universal. En definitiva, este artículo pretende ser un aporte a la investigación educativa en pueblos indígenas latinoamericanos, tomando como ejemplo a los aymaras de Tarapacá, Chile, por medio de una discusión teórico-metodológica.ABSTRACTThis article critically analyzes the modernishing and reproductivist theories in education research, specially the dualism that both of them propose in order to understand reality. Therefore, their explanatory effectiveness concerning the realities of Latin American native groups is discussed. Examples are taken from studies of the Aymaras from Tarapacá, Chile, carried out by researchers oriented towards the modernishing and or reproductivist theories, mainly to point out the methodological and theoretical difficulties confronted by Western theories with universal pretentions when dealing with the indigenous reality. Succinctly, by means of a theoretical and methodological discussion, this article intends to be a contribution to the educational research of Latin American native populations with the example of the Aymaras of Tarapacá, Chile.
