dc.description	In the last twenty-five years, a post-revisionist school has emerged to study and write the history of the establishment of Latin American states. With the purpose of attributing more agency to the people, this historiography –paying attention to  symbolic elements and  to  the limitations of  the   exclusively institutional and  economic points of  views– examines processes of  state    formation from   a  cultural perspective. Specifically,they   have    focused on   the  means and  strategies through which elites    have    governed and retained power. Through the bibliographical analysis of some of the most significant work of this school of thought, this essay reviews Latin American history between the beginning of the 19th century and the 20th century. This article proposes that –in spite of successive state projects to incorporate the popular sectors of  the  public– inequality, exclusion, and  the   structuring of  society in  social, racial and  gender hierarchies constitute a long-standing trend in the history of the formation of the State in Latin American countries.	en-US
dc.description	En los últimos veinticinco años ha surgido una corriente post-revisionista para estudiar y escribir la historia de la formación de los Estados latinoamericanos. Con el objetivo de no dejar a la gente fuera de la historia, esta historiografía –prestándole atención a los elementos simbólicos, y en detrimento de las miradas exclusivamente institucionales y económicas– ha estudiado la formación estatal desde una perspectiva cultural. Específicamente se ha enfocado en los medios y las estrategias por medio de las cuales las elites han gobernado y conservado el poder. A través del análisis bibliográfico de algunas de las obras más significativas de esta corriente, este ensayo hace una revisión de la historia latinoamericana entre principios del siglo XIX y mediados del XX; proponiendo que –a pesar de los sucesivos proyectos estatales de incorporación de los sectores populares– la desigualdad, la exclusión y la estructuración de la sociedad a partir de jerarquías sociales, raciales y de género constituyen una corriente de larga duración en la historia de la formación de los Estados nacionales latinoamericanos.	es-ES
