| dc.description | The intention of this paper is to explain the notion of formal distinction, one of the fundamental doctrines of the Blessed John Duns Scotus, by trying to determine what is the speculative context in which the Subtle Doctor proposes such a notion. Avicenna’s doctrine, according to which a universal notion consists only on what it is, and that this absolute identity with itself is different from the universal character as such, constitutes the starting point to determine this context. Identity appears as the most straightforward way to introduce the problem of the Trinity, which constitutes the doctrinal context where Scotus proposes the formal non-identity as the most adequate manner to conceive the unity of the divine essence and the plurality of the divine persons, without implying a contradiction or a real distinction. The examination of identity brings us, at the same time, to consider the meaning of the notions of distinction, unity and plurality. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo pretende exponer en qué consiste la noción de distinción formal, una de las doctrinas fundamentales del beato Juan Duns Scoto, tratando de determinar cuál es el ámbito especulativo en el que el Doctor Sutil propone dicha noción. El punto de partida para determinar dicho ámbito lo constituye la doctrina de Avicena, para el cual toda noción universal consiste solo en eso que es, y dicha absoluta identidad consigo misma es distinta del carácter universal en cuanto tal. La identidad se muestra como el camino más directo para presentar el problema de la Trinidad, que constituye el ámbito doctrinal en el cual Scoto propone la noidentidad formal como la manera más adecuada de concebir la unidad de la esencia divina y la pluralidad de las personas divinas, sin que ello implique una contradicción o una distinción real. El examen de la identidad nos lleva, asimismo, a considerar en qué consisten las nociones de distinción, unidad y pluralidad. | es-ES |
