Banana, or Maika, is an important consideration for rapanui plant. El maíka es una planta multipropósito,y a la vez un elemento multinatural. Tiene la facultad de ser diferentes cosas en distintos órdenes de la vida social; por ejemplo, es parte del paisaje vegetal, es un hito cartográfico del mapa tribal, es alimento en sus distintas preparaciones, conlleva la creación de diversos textiles y adornos, junto con ser objeto de deporte y recreación.
