dc.descriptionBanana, or Maika, is an important consideration for rapanui plant. This plant diverse uses that are and have been significant in the social and cultural life of the Polynesian inhabitants of Rapa Nui throughout its recent history are held. This article explores representations, uses and valuations, considering the different social contexts in which circulates occurs and these practices are played. Maika is a multipurpose plant, and both a multinatural element has the ability to be different things in different spheres of social life; for example, is part of the vegetal landscape, is a mapping landmark tribal map, is food in its various preparations, involves the creation of various textiles and ornaments, along with being the subject of sport and recreation. These two qualities give a similar status to that of humans within the meaning and significance map of rapanui.en-US
dc.descriptionEl plátano, o maíka, es una planta importante para los rapanui. Sobre este vegetal se sostienen diversos usos que son y han sido significativos en la vida social y cultural de los habitantes polinésicos y de Rapa Nui a lo largo de su historia reciente. Este artículo indaga sobre sus representaciones, usos y valoraciones, considerando los distintos contextos sociales donde circulan, se producen y reproducen estas prácticas. El maíka es una planta multipropósito,y a la vez un elemento multinatural. Tiene la facultad de ser diferentes cosas en distintos órdenes de la vida social; por ejemplo, es parte del paisaje vegetal, es un hito cartográfico del mapa tribal, es alimento en sus distintas preparaciones, conlleva la creación de diversos textiles y adornos, junto con ser objeto de deporte y recreación. Estas cualidades le dan un estatus análogo al de los humanos dentro del mapa de sentido y significado rapanui.es-ES
