Common features of Chilean educational reforms of the pre-eighties are compared with the change process in pre-school, basic and secondary education of the nineties, raising the issue that a new style of transforming education has become shaped. Some of the main differences between both periods are: a displacement of the transformation axis towards the school, the classroom and everyday learning process; a different role played both by the State and management and educational agents; previous provision of technical, organizational and material conditions; the progression of the change process; and the use of new mechanisms such as technical support and finantial incentives, to bring about the changes.El artículo compara los rasgos comunes de las reformas educativas emprendidas en Chile hasta la década de los ochenta, con los procesos de cambio que están desarrollándose en los años 90, en la Educación Preescolar, Básica y Media, bajo la hipótesis que se ha configurado un nuevo estilo de transformar la educación.  Las principales diferencias se encuentran en el desplazamiento del eje de la transformación hacia la escuela, el aula y los procesos cotidianos de aprendizaje; un distinto rol del Estado y de los agentes educativos y de gestión; la creación previa de condiciones materiales, organizativas y técnicas; la gradualidad en los cambios; y el uso de nuevos mecanismos para producirlos, entre otros, los incentivos financieros y apoyos técnicos.
