This research aims at analysing how secondary education teachers and students interpret the study of different curricular areas, and how teachers teach them to study in the classroom.  The findings show that: a) students report generally using memorisation strategies in their study of different subjects, and at the same time they consider that teachers evaluate precisely this repetition of information; b) teachers consider “the good student” to be the one having certain individual cognitive skills and motivation towards learning; and c) teachers have scarce knowledge about methods that enhance reflection or strategic learning in the classroom.Esta investigación pretende analizar cómo interpretan estudiantes y profesores de secundaria el estudio de las diferentes áreas curriculares y cómo se lleva a cabo dicha enseñanza.  Los resultados obtenidos muestran que: a) los alumnos manifiestan utilizar en general estrategias de memorización durante el estudio de las diferentes materias y consideran al mismo tiempo que es precisamente la repetición de la información lo que los profesores evalúan, b) los profesores consideran que “el buen estudiante” es aquél que dispone de ciertas habilidades cognitivas individuales y motivación hacia el aprendizaje, c) los profesores disponen de poco conocimiento en relación a métodos que favorecen la reflexión o el aprendizaje estratégico dentro del aula.
