Cultural diversity and curriculum. Is articulation feasible?

Abstract
The author explores several interpretations of the curricular theory, putting forward how is it that this theory and the school of National State are both conceived to promote a homogeneous citizenship. The analytic work comes from the recognition of the existence of multiple cultural forms that are unattended by western culture, with a particular focus on the Latin American case. The author progressively explains how is it that cultural diversity faces multiple tensions in its way to become the object in the school system and the ways by which curricula and national and international mass exams put pressure on the educational work towards the setting of homogenous practices. Se exploran diversas interpretaciones que se hacen de la teoría curricular, plantea cómo tanto esta teoría como la escuela del Estado Nacional están concebidas para promover una ciudadanía homogénea. El trabajo analítico parte de reconocer cómo frente a la cultura occidental existen múltiples formas culturales que son desatendidas. En particular centra su tarea analítica en el caso de América Latina. Paulatinamente va exponiendo cómo la diversidad cultural se enfrenta a múltiples tensiones para ser objeto de formación en el sistema escolar. Cómo el currículum y los exámenes masivos nacionales e internacionales presionan el trabajo educativo hacia prácticas homogéneas.
