Durante el siglo XIX, Chile desplegó esfuerzos institucionales para desarrollar la Estadística y utilizarla como herramienta de diagnóstico social. Este trabajo muestra cómo este despliegue puede ser entendido como la recepción oficial Chilena de la Estadística como ciencia de un país civilizado y moderno. Acudiendo a ciertos trabajos desarrollados por Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, se muestra la concepción que había de modernidad y que era coherente con la concepción de Estadística. This papershows how these efforts correspond to a Chilean official reception of Statistics asthe science of a civilized and modern nation.
