| dc.description | La finalidad de este artículo es indagar en la reivindicación obrera salitrera de Tarapacá - entre los años 1890 y 1920- la presencia de la escuela o demanda por educación pública, con el propósito de relacionarlas con 1. acontecimientos significativos para el país y la región, 2. con organizaciones obreras y sus respectivas ideologías y, 3. con las propuestas estatales sobre las condiciones de vida en las salitreras. Estos tres aspectos, entre otros, permiten establecer -a modo de hipótesis de trabajo-momentos de inflexión histórica para el desarrollo del movimiento obrero salitrero y de la educación pública en Tarapacá.

The purpose of this essay is to survey the recovery of Tarapacá’s nitrate miners -from 1890 to 1920-, the presence of schools or the claim for public education with the aim of relating them with: 1.Important historical issues for thecountry and the region, 2.labor unions and their respective ideologies 3. and the state proposals about nitrate mines living conditions. These three aspects, among others, allow us to establish -in the manner of work hypothesis-, moments of historical inflection forthe development of nitrate miners movement and public education in Tarapacá.
