In this article I will discuss two narrative texts: the short story “Al margen del libro de Job” (1918), by the Costa Rican writer Carmen Lyra, and the novel Neurosis (1916), by the Peruvian writer Consuelo Eufrosina Villarán. Is intended to compare these two books to understand the process of subversion of these gender roles and the position of the authors about the discussions on the identity, marriage and motherhood carrying out Latin American feminism in the first decades of the twentieth century.En este artículo se analizarán dos textos narrativos: el cuento “Al margen del libro de Job” de la costarricense Carmen Lyra, publicado por primera vez en 1918, y la novela Neurosis, de la peruana Consuelo Eufrosina Villarán, editada en 1916. A partir del diálogo de estas dos escrituras se pretende rastrear el proceso de subversión de los roles de género contenido en las mismas y la posición de las autoras en torno a los debates sobre la identidad, el matrimonio y la maternidad que llevaba a cabo el feminismo latinoamericano en las primeras décadas del siglo XX.
