This article proposes the idea that photography, as a medium of representation, is the model used for the construction of La nueva novela (The new novel) by Juan Luis Martinez. Photography joins ambivalent features, such as its romantic-scientific origin, its documental character, as well as its capacity to distort what it represents, deceiving the observer. Given its intrinsic features, the photographic procedure allows the author to reflect on the representation, language, literature, identity and history.Este artículo propone la idea de que la fotografía como medio de representación es el modelo sobre el que se construye el libro-objeto de Juan Luis Martínez, La nueva novela. La fotografía reúne características ambivalentes, como su origen romántico-científico, su carácter documental, así como su capacidad para distorsionar lo que representa, engañando al observador. Por sus características intrínsecas, el procedimiento fotográfico le permite al autor reflexionar sobre la representación, el lenguaje, la literatura, la identidad y la historia.
