dc.description | The notion of metacommunication has become popular in the academic world since the work of the so called Interactional View of human communication. In their influential book Pragmatics of Human Communication (Watzlawick, Beavin & Jackson, 1981), the authors propose a definition of (meta) communication that is and has been inconvenient and contradictory. From its onset, the axiom related to metacommunication enunciated by these authors, was provocative and allowed opening new dimensions in the study and comprehension of the phenomenon of human communication. Nevertheless, over time its applications and theoretical uses have been diverse and contradictory. Our purpose is to review and discuss the concept of metacommunication, through a critical analysis, proposing alternatives for redefining it in order to make its comprehension more clear and operative | en-US |
