dc.description | School-age children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) show difficulties in phonological working memory. They exhibit a deficient processing of nonsense and familiar words with varying number of syllables. The current study is directed to similar aspects in preschool children with SLI. The goal is to know if this group of children exhibit a deficient performance when processing nonsense and familiar words with different syllabic structure –from one to four syllables. Results show that preschool children with SLI remember less nonsense and familiar words than control children. Besides, this pattern is maintained across items with varying number of syllables, excepting the similar performance in three-syllables nonsense words in both groups of children. Results support the explanation that attributes these problems to a deficient construction of phonological representations in preschool children with SLI. Clinical implications are also discussed | en-US |
