dc.description | This is a descriptive-comparative study. The purpose of the present work was to compare cognitive abilities in children with and without disruptive behavior and to investigate family characteristics and sociometric position of these children. Sixty children, boys and girls, between 5-7 years old, were assessed: 30 with disruptive behavior and 30 without disruptive behavior. Children with disruptive behavior showed greater difficulty to define a problematic situation, to choose an adequate alternative and to take the right decision than children without disruptive behavior. Differences were found in their sociometric position: children with disruptive behavior were more rejected and isolated than children without problem behavior. The lack of certain cognitive abilities involved in behavior self-control may lead to unsatisfactory relationships and emotional problems. Detecting these deficiencies will allow the design of psycho-educative programs to prevent psycho-social maladjustment. | en-US |
