dc.descriptionWhen there is neither direct experience nor formal socialization about a historical issue, the means of remembering rely only on collective memory. This study was based on interviews that addressed representations, explanations, and evaluations regarding the 1973 coup in Chile, in an intentional sample of 213 pre-adolescent students (mean age 11). A frequency analysis of the contents of their responses originated a model of the schemas of their narrations about this political event in terms of different narrative patterns. The data,  obtained in 1997, allow identifying narrative patterns a quarter of a century after the event, before the debate about the legitimacy of the coup became widespread and its treatment at school was formalized. Contrary to hypotheses derived from social cognition and cognitive development literature, a basic level of information about the event was observed, along with coherent narrative patterns. The paper discusses these results in relation to other findings pertaining to the collective memory of the same event in adults, concluding that early and informal political socialization has had a long-lasting impact on historical memory.en-US
dc.descriptionCuando no existe experiencia directa ni socialización formal sobre un evento histórico, los medios de recordación se sostienen solamente en la memoria colectiva. El estudio se basó en entrevistas que abordaron representaciones, explicaciones y evaluaciones respecto del golpe de Estado de 1973 en Chile, en una muestra intencional de 213  preadolescentes de Santiago (edad promedio 11 años). El análisis de sus relatos, según frecuencias de contenidos, permitió construir un modelo de los esquemas de relato acerca de este evento político en términos de diversos patrones narrativos. Los datos, obtenidos en 1997, permiten identificar patrones narrativos 25 años después del evento, antes de que se abriera masivamente el tema de la legitimidad del golpe y se formalizara su tratamiento escolar. Se observó un nivel de conocimiento básico acerca del evento, así como patrones narrativos coherentes, contrariamente a hipótesis derivadas de la literatura en cognición social y desarrollo cognitivo. Se discuten los resultados relacionándolos con la memoria colectiva en adultos respecto del mismo evento, concluyendo que la socialización política temprana e informal ha tenido un impacto duradero en la memoria histórica.es-ES
